Hi, my name is Tanis and I have been teaching fitness classes for over 18.5 years. I have taught numerous classes in Hi-Lo Aerobics, Step, Group Cycle, Resistance, Tae Box, Circuit and Interval Training to Zumba. My interest in teaching fitness classes started when I was diagnosed with Asthma as a teenager and was desperate to discover a workout routine that didn't leave me breathless and defeated. While attending High School, a new and innovative program was launched called "Jazzercise", an exercise routine that utilized both athletic moves and dance steps to music. In need of physical education credits, I joined. This was the beginning of a new way of physical activity that was revolutionary, the beginning of what we know today, called "aerobic dance". It didn't take long for me to get hooked. It did not seem like exercise. With the love of music I was instantly inspired to move and move hard to the rhythmic beats. I didn't even feel as though I was working out.
Before long I wanted to launch my new passion onto the rest of the world. Now I had to conquer my shyness if I was to teach and be in front of the group. My training began at our local South Winnipeg YMCA but soon after marrying I moved out east to Ontario and completed my training. I spent 7 years out east and then relocated back to Winnipeg where I have continued my quest to motivate folks to become healthy and fit. Over the years I have been blessed by amazing mentors who taught me everything I know. I am passionate about learning and bringing current trends and research to my groups so that they can continue their success in becoming healthy.
After several years teaching under contract with several clubs and recreational centres I became injured and thought I might have to hang up my sneakers for good. After a lengthy recovery I bounced back and decided to go out on my own. A year later I have proven to be a very successful entrepreneur and continue to grow my business. My participants have been extremely happy with my program offerings and services. My mission is to make fitness assessable to all, no matter their income, fitness level, gender or age. My classes do not discriminate and everyone is welcome. I look forward to several more years of spreading the word of fitness. Remember if you don't use it...you loose it, so keep moving and enjoy what you do as that is what will keep you motivated and healthy.
